SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) — Kennecott’s Daybreak community ranked sixth for 2009 home sales among leading U.S. planned communities, according to a Washington, D.C.-based real-estate firm.

Kennecott Land, the real-estate sister company of Kennecott Utah Copper Corp., says builders sold 375 homes at Daybreak in South Jordan.

Daybreak offers houses with traditional porches, garages on back alleys, pocket parks, lots of trails and wide-open surrounding spaces. The houses start around $200,000; studio condos at $130,000.

Daybreak now has 2,300 houses and townhouses. The community, launched in 2004, will get light-rail service in about a year.

Real-estate advisers Robert Charles Lesser & Co. says Houston and Las Vegas led sales in 2009 for planned communities.
